THE Ultimate Guide–everything couples need to know about choosing the best location that fits their personality and wedding vibe.
Congratulations on your upcoming engagement! As a photographer, I understand the importance of finding the perfect location for your engagement shoot. The Greater Tampa Bay area in Florida offers a diverse range of stunning backdrops that will add beauty and uniqueness to your photos. In this guide, I’ll take you through some of the most picturesque spots I’ve had the pleasure of shooting at, showcasing the charm and character they bring to each image.
Ybor City: Known for its vibrant atmosphere, historic charm, and chickens, Ybor City is an ideal location for an engagement shoot. The brick-lined streets, colorful buildings, and New Orleans style buildings provide a visually appealing and energetic backdrop. When you see the trolley cross the downtown center square, you know that Ybor City offers endless possibilities for creative and unique shots.
Ybor City offers a free Tampa Trolley that makes frequent stops downtown Ybor City all the way to Channelside to the Amaile Area where the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team plays (2.7 mile route). The trolley is a great way to get downtown without having the deal with the hassle of downtown Tampa parking! Ybor City chickens are protected in the city limits. If you haven’t seen a chicken during your visit to Ybor City, did you really go there?
Downtown Tampa: The heart of Tampa’s downtown offers several captivating locations for engagement shoots. The Le Meridien and courthouse downtown Tampa are architectural gems that exude the elegance of the classical era. The juxtaposition of the historic courthouse against the modern Le Meridien hotel creates a visually stunning contrast, making for breathtaking photos.
Tampa Theater: For couples seeking a touch of old-Hollywood charm, Tampa Theater is a unique destination for captivating images. The theater’s intricate details and grandeur create a timeless backdrop for your engagement shoot. Whether you capture the romance inside the theater or utilize the surrounding streets and the light up Tampa sign, the Tampa Theater offers a touch of elegance that will make your photos truly special.
Built in 1926 the Tampa Theatre has an old timey Hollywood glam vibe. They are currently a not-for-profit managed by the Tampa Theatre Foundation.
For a skyscraper urban city vibe, consider Fort Brooke Street Garage. With its sleek lines, modern design, and rooftop views of the cityscape, this location offers a contemporary aesthetic that is perfect for capturing your love against the backdrop of a bustling city.
At sunset you can see the city skyline, Hillsborough River, downtown Tampa, and the glow of the concrete jungle. The rooftop at Fort Brooke Street Garage is a permitted location.
If heights are not your thing, the riverfront by Curtis Hixon Park and the Plant Museum offer a backdrop of the Hillsborough River with the skyscrapers of downtown Tampa showcasing the key features of Tampa Bay.
The Henry B. Plant Museum is located on the University of Tampa‘s campus and the Tampa Riverwalk.
If you’re looking for a blend of natural beauty and urban charm, St. Petersburg is a photographer’s paradise. Located west of Tampa Bay, Vinoy Park, situated along the waterfront, offers sweeping views of Tampa Bay, lush greenery, and charming walkways. The park’s romantic atmosphere is enhanced by stunning sunsets, creating a dreamy backdrop for your engagement photos.
For a touch of urban art, head to downtown St. Petersburg, where colorful murals line the streets. These vibrant and visually captivating artworks add a pop to your images, creating a playful and modern aesthetic. If you are looking for a clean aesthetic The Mahaffey Theater provides a clean, yet picturesque view right on the water. Bonus, the Dali Museum is right nearby for a unique backdrop!
Central Ave in downtown St Petersburg offers a wide array of murals and graphic art along the street. The You are my Sunshine mural is located near the Morean Arts Center. Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg offers a pergola for sitting in the park by the banyan trees. The pergola is a great spot for pictures especially when the flowers bloom along the tops and sides of the structure.
Let’s go to the beach!
Fort De Soto beach is a great location to catch the sunset and bring pets! They have a dog beach along with biking trails and many pull off spots to view the historic area. Parking is also plentiful!
No guide to the Tampa Bay area would be complete without mentioning its stunning beaches. Fort De Soto Beach, Treasure Island Beach, Upham Beach in St Pete, and Honeymoon Island Beach, just to name a few! They all offer sand, waves, and breathtaking sunsets. These natural havens provide a picturesque setting for a romantic and intimate engagement shoot, with endless possibilities for capturing your love.
Upham Beach right next to St. Pete Beach has rocks, shells and bird watching spots. It also has a greenery garden area for a variety of shots that are more than the water. Sand Key Beach in Clearwater has a beautiful open beach with some grassy areas for a good contrast of green and ocean. The sunset at both locations are beautiful at all times of the year!
