A Tampa Boat Engagement Session Inspired by Their Love Story

Ben and Kristen’s engagement session was one of the most meaningful Tampa engagement shoots I have done because it reflected so much of their story together. From the very beginning, the boat docks in downtown Tampa Bay have been part of their relationship. The two first met while working at Riverwalk Boating Company in downtown Tampa, making a boat engagement session the perfect way to celebrate this season of their lives.

As a Tampa engagement photographer, I always encourage couples to choose locations and activities that feel personal to them. Ben and Kristen did exactly that with a nontraditional engagement session. We explored some of the most iconic waterfront locations around Tampa by boat while documenting their relationship in a way that felt natural and authentic.

Starting Their Tampa Engagement Photos at the Tampa Convention Center

We began their engagement session near the Tampa Convention Center along the downtown Riverwalk. The city skyline created the perfect backdrop as the sun started to lower over the water. Downtown Tampa always offers such a unique mix of modern city views and relaxed waterfront scenery, which made the beginning of their session feel both relaxing and adventurous.

One of the best parts about engagement sessions on the water is the ability to move between locations while keeping the experience relaxed and fun. Instead of rushing between spots in traffic, we cruised through the waterways while capturing candid moments along the way.

University of Tampa Engagement Photos on the Hillsborough River

One of the most meaningful stops during the session was near the University of Tampa. Since Ben and Kristen are both alumni, it was important to include the university in their engagement photos. We stopped along the Hillsborough River with views of the iconic minarets rising above the city skyline.

The University of Tampa is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city, and seeing it from the water added such a unique perspective to their engagement gallery. The combination of the historic architecture, calm river views, and golden hour evening light created some of my favorite images from the entire session.

What made this session stand out was how connected every location felt to their relationship. None of the stops felt random or staged. Every part of the session reflected places and experiences that have shaped their story together.

Exploring Tampa Bay and Bayshore Boulevard by Boat

After spending time along the river, we headed farther out into Tampa Bay for sunset portraits with open water views. As the light softened, we passed areas near Bayshore Boulevard, where the shoreline and city views created the perfect backdrop for romantic engagement photos.

The entire evening had such a relaxed Florida feel. Between the breeze coming off the water, the skyline views, and the personal connection to boating in their relationship, the session captured so much of what makes Tampa special.
